A Healthy Diet

With so many health fads out there how do you know what is a healthy diet? When I was younger I was exposed to a very healthy diet and because of that I feel I eat healthy to this day!

A healthy diet to me consists of a variety of foods. I think the key is balancing everything you eat into different categories. I use the food pyramid as a good baseline and when I eat different meals during the day I try to incorporate all the different food groups.

For example I eat eggs for breakfast with whole wheat toast, some low fat cheese melted on the eggs and piece of fruit. By looking at this example you can see I have included the dairy group, protein, bread, and fruit group.

Then to balance out what I did not eat at breakfast I would have for lunch including a salad with carrots, cucumbers, and other raw vegetables in it along with some lean chicken and a low fat dressing. Now I have gotten a good serving of vegetables in along with some more protein.

For dinner I would eat lean turkey, with brown rice and steamed broccoli with low fat cheese on it. For a desert I would have some fruit with some low fat yogurt or low fat ice cream. I always make sure to watch my sugar in take with all of the foods I consume. You never want to have too much sugar in your diet and always try to keep all meat and dairy products low fat.
