CampSaver Proves to be Loyal to its Fellow Hikers

picture-21If you have been keeping up with my previous blogs, many products that I have discussed come from the US Outdoor Store or Altrec, but I am happy to say that I have become familiar with another company, CampSaver.

I’m sure you’ve heard of CampSaver - as you should of! They have a great lineup of all categories related to the great outdoors, including camping and hiking, climbing, all men’s and women’s gear and apparel, kid’s, snow sports, general travel gear, and footwear. They have a great search option on their site, and also a direct link to their outlet store (a simple tab at the top of their homepage). Not to mention they have AWESOME subcategories within their main pages that easily direct you exactly where you need to go!

After researching and fishing through the CampSaver sight, I could easily find the most popular products for this season, recently viewed products, and site suggestions for me based on what I’ve previously looked at or bought.

While I was admiring all the great features this site has, I was also loving all the products they offered too! I just so happen to be in the midst of new product searching because my climbing gear is getting a little obsolete. I found great climbing kits, jackets, tents, sleeping bags, and more!

I’m really excited to keep sharing CampSaver and all the other great outdoor sites on this blog. After all, reviews and personal testimonies are the best decision makers when looking for new gear. Check out CampSaver.com and let me know what you think!

My Birthday Gift: a Day Pass on the Mountain!

Currently, I have two great things to be very thankful for: a GREAT man and an awesome mountain within an hour drive.

Since my birthday is in the next coming week, my man has been bugging me and wanting to know what in the world he is going to get me. Because I’m half stubborn and half indecisive, I always reply, “I don’t know” or “you don’t have to get me anything!” (Hoping that he’d take that last comment as a joke and actually get me something. :)

picture-4Due to the fact that he is an avid snowboarder with a season pass, I guess he automatically turned to the possibility of a snowboarding day for him and I. He knows that I am rather cheap and refuse to pay the day-pass fee of nearly $60, so he used this as an opportunity for quite a lovely birthday present. However, it’s actually a huge change to be thinking about snowboarding at the end of April, because there is usually hardly any snow left up on the mountain! This year was an exception, though, since our mountain snowfall and level was the highest in history for this time of the year.

Looking ahead at the forecast, he knew that there would be a prime opportunity within this last weekend that would serve as a great day of snowboarding. That being said, last Sunday we headed up for our day, (or rather, my day) up on the mountain. When we arrived, we saw people in shorts, no shirts, people only wearing t-shirts, and even a guy in his boxers and skis! It was a whopping 54 degrees up atop the mountain, where it had been 14 degrees the last time I visited in January.

By the end of our day, we had taken off two layers of clothing, and still dealt with a sweaty day of unbelievably hot and sunny snowboarding. As a souvenir, I know have an excellent goggle tan and a rudolph-burned nose to remember my perfect birthday gift. :)

Kids Volcom Rules Gresham

front-21

What are the latest fads when it comes to skate, surf and snowboard shops…ask the kids! That’s right, the youth generation is getting more and more involved with all the latest and greatest trends when it comes to Volcom, Billabong, Quick Silver and more. In the great northwest, a local Gresham store, Gromshop, is focusing in on this specifically and ruling the kids Volcom market.

The store specializes in kids volcom clothing, gear, accessories and anything a little grom could ask for. If you are not from the northwest you can also shop online and find killer deals on anything youth related. Just a few months ago I bought my little nephew a pair DC shoes and a Quick Silver top. It was great to see that I had the option to buy him those styles and he is only two years old!

With the youth being even more involved in these action sports then ever before, it is nice to know you can also keep them up to date with the latest clothing trends along with the sports equipment they need to keep enjoying all their favorite activities. The Gromshop not only is accommodating this market, but also is getting involved with the community. They participate in events such as “Gromfest” with loud music, skateboard contests and enough root beer to satisfy all the kids’ thirst.

Snowboard Season is Right Around the Corner!

I can not beleive that is almost Snowboard season again! I needed some new gear this year so I did a little shopping online at BoardCorner.com they have all the latest new gear including brands I love like Salomon, Burton, K2, Ride, Gnu, Forum and Lib tech. It has been a while since I have purchased some new gear and it was long over due! I am so excited because I got a new snowboard along with some great snowboard bindings. Now I am ready to hit the Mountain! I hope it is a good season this year, since last year my season was cut short! I am looking forward to a lot of snow and good times. Last year I had a pretty rough fall and ended up breaking my wrist, so this year I am going to start out very slow.

My fiancé loves to snowboard as well and he is all ready to go with his season pass. Every year he gets a season pass to Mount Hood Meadows and this year is no different. He has a lot of friends that go up with him every weekend and sometime during the week. I go with him as often as I can, but he goes a lot more then I ever have time for. This year I am going to try to get to the mountain more often, but we will see what happens!

Snowboarding

I first learned to Snowboard about 5 years ago. It was hard at first but since I had previous wake boarding experience I think that made it a lot easier to learn. I really enjoyed it once I got the hang of it but it took me a good couple of years to feel like I had finally gotten the sport down.

Last winter everything changed for me! I was up snowboarding with my fiancé and I took a bad fall! For some reason I just could not get the hang of feeling comfortable on the board, I was toe side to the mountain and I flipped backwards, when I landed I could not move my arm! My fiancé immediately called for help and the next thing I knew I was riding on a sled to the ER at the mountain.

After multiple ex rays they determined that my wrist was broken in multiple places. They also told me that I had to have emergency surgery that evening to put all the bones back into place! Now I have never broken any bones and I have never had surgery before so this was a very scary experience for me!

I am happy to say now that everything is said and done my wrist is pretty much back to normal. I do have a 3 inch scare up my wrist and a new addition to my body of 8 screws, 2 pins and a metal plate! That is what you get for loving a sport like snowboarding.
