If you can recall I had a very bad snowboarding accident. Because of the wrist injury I have to wait until next summer to water-ski. Now you do not know me very well but this is what I consider torture! I love to water ski and every summer I look forward to going out on the boat and water skiing. There is nothing better then the water cooling you off on a hot sunny day!
I am really looking forward to next summer when my wrist has had a full year to heal. It is just not the same being out on the boat and not being able to ski. I have been skiing since I was 12 years old! I think it is the one sport that I do really well at! I have been on the boat a couple times this summer and watched as everyone else was able to water ski.
I think when you are not able to do something that you have always been able to do it makes you appreciate it more when you are able to do it again. That is how I feel about Snowboarding although I might be switching to skiing ☺ !
The days are getting longer and our friend the sun is starting to come out! What does that mean for me….summer time! What else does that mean, it means sun tanning, drinking margarita’s, water skiing, wake boarding, and my favorite thing, all of these things combined…going to the river!
Going to the river means that my fiancé and I and my mom and her boyfriend pack up the boat and drive to the river! The river is only about 15 minutes away from where we live. My mom lives close to us so it is about the same distance from my mom’s home.
After the boat is all packed up we head out for our water adventure. My mom has to back the boat down in the ramp and then we are off! The wind is blowing in our hair and the sun is out! It is so hot outside that I usually volunteer to be the first one to jump in the water. My mom throws me my ski and says “Grab on to the rope!” Once I hold on to the rope I give the signal and I am pulled out of the water!
This routine continues through the day as we rotate people skiing, wake boarding, and driving the boat. After we are all tired from skiing we head to the beach to eat some lunch and drink margaritas!
This is just one example of the many water adventures!
It is about time we had a sunny day! Right now it is currently 85 degrees outside! So if I had the day off and I had a boat I would be on the river doing some water skiing! Or at least heading over to Government Island to do some beach lounging and soak up some sun. I love the sun and it is always nice when we have some sunny days in May! It usually takes until at least June to start getting nice but an early summer sounds good to me! My whole life I have always loved the sun and every time I have an opportunity to play in it I am always excited to do so!
Some other things I like to do when it is sunny outside is take a walk. I love to get outside and get fresh air and exercise at the same time. Something about getting away from the computer and being able to just take a long walk is so enjoyable. I love to soak up the trees around me and all of the scenery the world creates! Also I like to people watch. People are so interesting to me! Well I must get back to work now, so much for having the day off!
Well the days are getting longer and the nights are getting shorter. What does that mean to some people…summer outdoor activities here I come! My favorite summer outdoor activities include water skiing, wake boarding, and hiking.
I first learned to water ski when I was around 10 years old. I remember my parents throwing me in the water with all of my ski gear on and saying “Grab on to the rope!” Little did I know that my little body would be blasted out of the water by this huge boat! It took me a while to get good at water skiing but it is just like riding a bike. Once you learn how to do it, you never forget. You can get out of practice, don’t get me wrong, but once you have the general idea you can come back to it for years to come. Now that I have been water skiing for 17 years of my life I have to say I am pretty good! I slalom now and have not used two skis in years!
Now wake boarding is a whole other story! When I first learned to wake board it took me 10 tries before I was able to get up and stay up out of the water! It is very much like snowboarding but you have a much softer ground to land on, water! Not to say that it does not hurt when you fall, but wake boarding, if you can control yourself until you are ready to take a rest, you can let go of the rope and slowly sink into the water. Now if you fall, it is the worst if you fall face first and smack into the water! Trust me I know by experience!
Now hiking has to be the safest outdoor activity I know! I love to hike and I started hiking when I was around 9 years old. My dad and I would research different places to hike and then once we had decided on the right spot we would hop in the car and we were off! One of my favorite places to hike is “Multnomah Falls”. Even though it is a pretty easy hike, it is close to home and I always get a good work out from it. To this day I love to hike!
